Dominik Szoboszlai has committed his future to Liverpool by signing a new long-term contract with the club.
Liverpool confirmed the agreement on 17 July 2026. The Hungary international joined the Reds from RB Leipzig in 2023 and has since become an important figure in midfield, closing in on 150 appearances for the club.
A Bigger Role at Liverpool
The new deal follows a season in which Szoboszlai was named Liverpool’s Standard Chartered Men’s Player of the Season for 2025-26. In his interview with the club after signing, he spoke about wanting to take greater responsibility and set an example for teammates.
That is a more useful way to understand the confidence that has often defined his public image. Rather than framing his personality as arrogance or relying on unsourced claims about his ego, Szoboszlai’s own comments point to ambition, responsibility and a desire to keep improving.
Ambitions Remain High
Szoboszlai said his ambition to win major trophies with Liverpool has not changed. The midfielder has already experienced domestic success with the club and remains focused on competing for the Premier League, Champions League and other major honours.
His long-term commitment also gives Liverpool continuity during a period of change under head coach Andoni Iraola. Iraola publicly welcomed the agreement during the club’s US pre-season tour and discussed Szoboszlai as one of the senior figures within the squad.
For Liverpool supporters, the most significant story is therefore not an exaggerated claim about an “ego explosion”, but that one of the club’s leading midfielders has chosen to commit his prime years to Anfield.
