Merseyside Police appealed for information after a serious collision involving a van and an e-scooter in Liverpool city centre in the early hours of Sunday 26 July 2026.
What Police Said
According to Merseyside Police, officers received a report at around 1.20am that two 17-year-old girls riding an e-scooter had been involved in a collision with a Mercedes Vito on Great George Street.
Emergency services attended and one of the teenagers was taken to hospital in a critical condition. Police said the second teenager was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, drug driving and driving without insurance.
The driver of the Mercedes Vito did not stop at the scene. Police later located the vehicle nearby and arrested a 57-year-old Liverpool man on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving and failing to stop.
Investigation Remained at an Early Stage
At the time of the police appeal, detectives said enquiries were continuing and asked witnesses, including anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage, to contact the force. The arrests described above were made on suspicion of offences and should not be treated as findings of guilt.
