Wirral Boat Builder MST Returns to Profit on Sales Near £20m

Wirral-based Marine Specialised Technology (MST) has returned to profit after a difficult trading period, with annual sales approaching £20 million. The Bromborough manufacturer designs and builds high-speed craft and rigid inflatable boats for military, coastguard, law-enforcement and commercial customers.

The recovery is significant for the local advanced-manufacturing economy because MST is part of a specialist maritime supply chain that extends beyond Liverpool itself across the wider Merseyside region.

A specialist maritime manufacturer

MST supplies customers in the UK and overseas and has secured work with military and government users, including naval customers. Its products are designed for demanding operational environments rather than the leisure-boat market.

Recent financial reporting shows the business moving back into profit after completing a challenging contract. Sales were close to £20 million, providing a stronger base from which the company can pursue further orders.

Why defence demand matters

Governments across Europe and other markets have been reviewing defence and maritime-security spending amid heightened geopolitical uncertainty. That creates potential opportunities for manufacturers such as MST, although future orders should not be treated as guaranteed until contracts are confirmed.

For the Liverpool City Region, firms like MST illustrate how the area’s maritime heritage continues in a modern form through engineering, specialist manufacturing and export-led business rather than traditional dock employment alone.
