Liverpool’s travel plans during their 2026 United States pre-season tour were disrupted when a flight from Chicago to New York City was cancelled because of severe weather.
Weather Disrupted the Journey
Local Liverpool football outlet This Is Anfield reported that Andoni Iraola’s squad had been due to travel from Chicago to New York ahead of their pre-season fixture at Yankee Stadium, but the flight was cancelled amid thunderstorms, heavy rain and a flood watch affecting New York.
Liverpool FC had previously confirmed that the New York fixture against Wrexham was scheduled for Wednesday 29 July at Yankee Stadium as part of the club’s three-match US tour.
A Travel Problem, Not a Pre-Season Crisis
Flight disruption can complicate training and recovery schedules, but there was no basis for describing the cancellation as a “catastrophic blunder” by the club or claiming the coaching staff were in disbelief. The available reporting attributed the cancellation to adverse weather conditions.
The original version of this article also claimed that Liverpool’s entire pre-season schedule had been thrown into disarray and suggested preparations might have been seriously compromised. Those conclusions went beyond the evidence and have been removed.
