Liverpool Manage Jeremy Jacquet’s Fitness During Pre-Season

Liverpool are taking a measured approach with defender Jeremy Jacquet during pre-season as the 20-year-old continues to build toward his first competitive campaign at Anfield.

Jeremy Jacquet during his first Liverpool pre-season

Jacquet joined Liverpool this summer after a deal with Stade Rennais had been agreed earlier in 2026. His final season in France was interrupted by a shoulder injury in February, but Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola said in July that the centre-back had fully recovered and had already been training with the club’s U21s.

A cautious pre-season programme

More recent pre-season reporting has shown Liverpool continuing to manage Jacquet’s workload, with the defender rested at times because of fitness considerations. That does not necessarily indicate a new injury or a significant setback; clubs routinely adjust training and match minutes as players return from previous injuries and build competitive fitness.

The distinction matters. Earlier reports around Jacquet can easily be framed as an “injury scare”, but the publicly available information supports a more cautious description: Liverpool are managing the fitness of a young defender whose previous campaign ended early because of a shoulder problem.

Competition in Liverpool’s defence

Jacquet arrives with senior experience in Ligue 1 and France U21 football, but adapting to a new club, a new coaching staff and Premier League demands will take time. His pre-season minutes are therefore likely to be viewed as part of a wider development process rather than a simple race to return as quickly as possible.

For Liverpool, the priority is straightforward: increase Jacquet’s workload responsibly and assess his readiness across the remainder of pre-season without making assumptions about his condition beyond what the club and reliable reporting have confirmed.
