Construction has started on phase two of Redbridge Quay at Wirral Waters, bringing 90 new waterside homes to Dock Road in Birkenhead.
Peel Waters announced the start of work in July 2026 alongside joint-venture partners Qualis Developments and Forshaw Group. The scheme received planning approval from Wirral Council earlier in the year.
What Is Being Built?
The development will provide 84 one-bedroom and six three-bedroom apartments across six four-storey buildings. The design is intended to reflect the area’s dockland heritage while incorporating modern energy-efficiency measures.
Plans include solar panels, electric-vehicle charging infrastructure, cycle parking, landscaped communal gardens, new tree planting and improvements to the public realm linking the development with the waterfront promenade.
Part of the Northbank Neighbourhood
Redbridge Quay forms part of the wider Wirral Waters regeneration programme and sits within the Northbank neighbourhood. Phase two follows the completion of Miller’s Quay and adds another residential project along Dock Road.
The development is significant as part of the continuing regeneration of Birkenhead’s docklands, but it should not be described as a guaranteed solution to the region’s housing shortage or as an investment success before the homes are completed and occupied.
The clearer story is that a previously approved scheme has now moved into construction and will add 90 homes alongside new public-realm and sustainability features.
